A large concentration of these trees occurs on Summerplace Game Reserve and there are scattered groups in the surrounding central Waterberg, growing on the deeper sandy soils in flat terrain. It has been suggested (Palgrave's 2002, p. 282) that they were introduced here from Zimbabwe and dispersed and this idea is supported by the fact that the Summerplace site is where a farming family from Zimbabwe settled about a century ago. Whether introduced here or not, this site is the centre of the tree's restricted South African range.
